Description:

This project was a collaborative work and exhibition with painter Iris Sakai. Responding to the artist’s desire to transform the recurring hooded figure motif from his two-dimensional paintings into a three-dimensional form, a sculptural bench was designed and fabricated as both artwork and functional furniture. Involved from the conceptual phase, the designer developed the form with consideration for structural feasibility, usability, and visual expression. The shape, dimensions, and construction methods were determined through an iterative process of sketching, 2D drawing, and 3D modeling, followed by detailed coordination with fabricators. Responsibilities also included material selection—such as wood species and hardware—as well as production scheduling, delivery logistics, and on-site installation planning. After delivery to Inherit Gallery, Sakai completed the surface painting on-site, and final adjustments to the installation location and configuration were made collaboratively, completing the work as an integrated spatial piece.
